Caro Somerset
Refurbishment and reconfiguration of a Grade II listed property in Bruton, Somerset to create a new lifestyle store and café.
Emil Eve’s design retains the historic arrangement of the rooms and celebrates their character with original elements such as the fireplaces, niches and deep window reveals used for display.
Externally, the high street shop-front was restored to reveal beautiful green tiling. Existing cement render and paint was carefully removed by hand and the stonework re-pointed with flush lime mortar.
The project includes bespoke storage and display furniture designed by the architects which can be easily reconfigured to change the layout across the different rooms – flexible enough to accommodate new product lines or special events.
A simple calm colour palette brings shadow and texture across the spaces, complementing the building’s low ceilings and uneven walls and floors. Carefully selected contemporary and vintage furniture completes the scheme.
